Magda's Toy Story Quiet Book

My two-year-old has recently become obsessed with Toy Story. She watches at least one Toy Story movie a day (sometimes two) and runs around at night proclaiming that she's Buzz Lightyear. So I was especially delighted when Magda (who made this incredible Christmas quiet book) made and sent me a Toy Story quiet book!

This book is awesome. It's so cute and so well made. The first page has a matching Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and three of the green little aliens. The second page is a dress-up Mr. Potato Head page. The third page is a "Pizza Planet" page, with pizza slices that have different numbers of pepperoni pieces for counting. That's followed by a piggy bank/color matching page. Finally, the last page has Lotso, with different trashcans and a trash truck for matching shapes.

I love this quiet book and wish I had one for my Toy-Story-obsessed little girl. It looks so fun!

Enjoy!

Happy Friday everyone! I have a completely adorable and extremely well-made quiet book to show you today! Made by Katie for her son, this book is so cute I don't know what to do with myself. Her pages are just to die for - look at that cute purple bird on its nest! And the fishing page! And the butterfly that comes out of the cocoon! Her shapes & color matching page is really clever - one of the best ways I've seen of doing it. And I love the details she added - the wrap around cover with a buckle is so smart and looks so good, and each page have a border looks awesome.

Take your time looking at all her pages, and enjoy!

Lift the Velcro flap to find a mirror
The clouds are pockets that hold little sky pieces for page 3
Open the curtains and find Velcro sky pieces (sun, clouds, rain, snow)
Three little eggs can be taken out of the nest
Weave the pie crust
"Catch" the football and practice tying the laces
Colorful "worms" are ribbon pulls, and three finger puppets (dog, cat, and bunny) can be taken out of the bushes
Match by color and shape, snap into place
Button the flowers
Fish can be moved up and down
Latch the dog collar and leash
Open the mailbox to find mail; move the flag up and down
Unzip the cocoon to find a butterfly
Tuck the kiddo into bed (magnets hold the blanket down)

Kristen's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Quiet Book

We're really lucky living in southern California that we get to go to Disneyland once in a while. In fact, just in the last couple months (because we went a couple times when we had family in town) my daughter's been able to go four times. She's two-and-a-half, and the first time we went she was a bit nervous about the rides. But now having been a couple times, the last time she went she was requesting all the different rides she wanted. She loooves Disneyland and asks almost everyday to go there. Sorry, kiddo. :)

So I'm really excited to show you today's quiet book - a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse book! Made by Kristen for her niece, this quiet book has a Mickey Mouse glove that you can lace, a flower page, a laundry page with a Mickey outfit, a Minnie outfit, and a Donald outfit, a shape and color matching page, a Minnie Mouse page with interchangeable bows, a cupcake counting page, a dog collar buckle page, and an Oh Toodles "I spy" page.

This is such a cute book and a great idea for a theme. Enjoy looking at all of Kristen's pages!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
Kristen; I have a serious case of wanderlust.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book for my 2 year old niece for Christmas.

What's your level of sewing experience?
What would you call the level between beginner and intermediate?

How long did it take you?
I tried not to let it get too out of control. It took about 3 weeks working between other projects.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
She loves Mickey's clubhouse and I couldn't find anything like that so I put my own twist on other ideas. Some of the pages I followed the idea, some I made up, and one (the laundry page) completely copied other than what the clothes are. For the flower/laundry page I used  Hardy Life: Quiet Book Pages, Pops and Podge: Quiet Book Page 4 - Do Some Laundry. The Minnie interchangeable bows are from here: Little Miss Stitcher: Minnie and Daisy.

How did you bind your quiet book?
For the cover I used this idea roughly:   Girl Inspired: The End of the Quiet Book Sew-along.

What material are the pages made out of?
Just cotton fabric with felt between to make it more sturdy.

What other materials did you use?
Mostly just felt.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
About $10 for felt, zipper, velcro, and vinyl. I had everything else.

What's your favorite page? Why?
The Oh Toodles page, because I'm impressed that I could tie it into the theme.

Thank you for sharing your super cute quiet book with us, Kristen!

I am constantly amazed at all the talent that the readers of this blog have. I receive submission after submission that just leave me floored. Sabrina's quiet book is no exception - from the fantastic embroidery, to the awesome cover, to each and every one of the creative, cute, and fun pages.

Some of my favorite pages from Sabrina's quiet book include her solar system page (wow! So cute and cool and the detail on her planets is incredible!), her farm page (the ears of corn are awesome), her refrigerator page (looooove all the food), and her forest page (again - the detail is just incredible). It would be hard to not be inspired by this book. So please, enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Sabrina and I am a stay at home mama from Germany.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made it for my wonderful daughter Christina. She is almost 2 years old and already loves her book.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I think I am advanced.

How long did it take you?
I don't know... Maybe 2-4 hours per page. I do all embroidery files by my own which has taken the most time to complete.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
Most ideas I found on this blog. I made my own embroidery and cutting files. I am not very good in handstiching. So I decided my machines can do the work :). Here are two other pages I found my inspiration from - Solar system: Imagine Our Life: Solar System Quiet Book Page; Forest page: Meli Melo: Wild Animal Habitat.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I used grommets and binder rings.

What material are the pages made out of?
I don't know the English word. In German it's called embroidery felt. It is for embroidery applications and it is washable and stable.

What other materials did you use?
Cotton and fleece for applications. Ribbons, buttons, KamSnaps, and felt.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I think the materials which I used have a value of more than 60€. About $80.

What's your favorite page? Why?
Ooooh! This is hard to say! But my top 3 pages are - solar system - farm page - forest page.

Thank you so much for sharing your book with us, Sabrina. It's fantastic!

Nadia's Color Quiet Book

Last year I was able to share with you an awesome quiet book made by Nadia from the blog Basically Burt, and today I get to share another quiet book of hers with you!

Nadia recently made a colors-themed quiet book for her son. Many colors-themed quiet books are mostly touch-and-feel books, but Nadia wanted to add some activity to the book. To do so, she added pockets to each page and things that her son can color-match to the different colors. What a great idea! If I ever make a colors quiet book I think that I'll copy that idea. :) She also added a song about colors at the end, another really fun idea. So, enjoy Nadia's new book!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Nadia.I am a busy mum of one from Melbourne, Australia.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book for my son who is 18 months old. I had previously made a more elaborate quiet book but wanted something simple that he could begin to use now. I got inspiration from a color quiet book floating around on pinterest which has beautiful patchwork pages. I however wanted to add an activity to the book, which was when I though of color matching and putting things in bags (which are both activities my son loves at the moment).

What's your level of sewing experience?
I am not a beginner, but am by no means an expert. I enjoy patchwork, quilting and have made a couple of quiet books previously.

How long did it take you?
This book was fairly quick to make. I made it over three days in nap times and at night. It probably took about 10 hours in total.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used no templates. I simply got my scraps of material and sewed them together until they were big enough to sew onto a double page.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I simply sewed all the pages together down the center of the cover (and a couple of pages to each other).

What material are the pages made out of?
The pages are made out of my scrap patchwork material, sewn together. These blocks are sewn onto a page which is made out of bedsheets a family member no longer wanted. The front cover is made out of fabric from an op shop.

What other materials did you use?
I used organza drawstring bags to put the colored objects into (as I wanted something see through). I also used fusible interfacing to help attach the words and letters to the pages before sewing them. I used a fabric marker to write the words. The colored objects to match to each page are buttons and foam shapes that I found at a $2 shop.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Given lots of my materials were second hand and scraps, this book cost very little. About $10 Australian all together.

What's your favorite page? Why?
Its hard to have a favorite, given that all the pages are the same. I do like the colors in the blue page!

Jan's Quiet Book

$

When I made my first quiet book, I bound it like my mom had bound the quiet book I had as a kid - I sewed button holes in the sides of the pages and connected them using binder rings. This option is easy and functional, but I kind of wish I had known at the time about quiet book covers! Since the time I made my own book, I have seen so many cute quiet book covers and wish I had made one for my kids' quiet book.

Today's quiet book has an adorable cover, made by Jan of "Jan's Art Friendzy" for her granddaughter. She made the quiet book cover just like she makes her quilts, and it gives the quiet book a really cute, really sturdy look! I love the handles she added and the velcro clasp. You should really check out the cover she made on this earlier quiet book, too - I love it. It's very quilt-style, and just adorable.

The pages in Jan's book are fantastic, too. Everything looks very clean, sturdy, and well-made. I like the details she added, like choosing fun patterned fabric for plants, pockets, and other things. Anyway, I'll quit rambling so that you can enjoy Jan's awesome book!

 Interview

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made the book for my granddaughter's 2 year birthday which was at the end of April.

How long did it take you?
I made the book over a couple weeks of sewing an hour here and there in the evening. Most of the time spent on the book was in the planning stages.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I decided to bind the book just as I bind my quilts. I really like the finished look it gives the book. I wanted Chloe to be able to carry it with her so added handles.

What material are the pages made out of?
The pages are made from a very firm pellon (can't remember the number) but it is called ultra firm.

What other materials did you use?
I also used lots of felt and some fabric and buttons.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I'm not sure of the cost of the book since I used supplies I had on hand. I made a Quiet Book for another granddaughter several years ago and had felt left over so used that.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I think my favorite page in the mailbox. I wrote a birthday post card to Chloe and put it in the mailbox.

To view Jan's quiet book on her own blog, click here: Jan's Art Friendzy: My Granddaughter's Quiet Book. To check out her other quiet book, click here: Jan's Art Friendzy: Quiet Book.

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA during July. My family just moved across country at the beginning of the month, and we've been getting everything unpacked and settling in for the last couple weeks. But the dust is settling, and soon there'll be new quiet books up on the blog! We even have a giveaway coming up!

In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at one of the new quiet books coming your way:

So stay tuned in, we'll have some fun new posts soon!

Max's Quiet Book

The first quiet book that I get to share with you this week is actually one that I made myself. My brother and his family were in town earlier this year, and my nephew had his first birthday while he was here. I knew that I wanted to make him a quiet book, but I also didn't have much time to make one (since we were doing things every day with my whole family).

So, to speed up the process of making a quiet book, I altered my usual quiet book techniques in a few ways. First, and this was the biggest time saver, I only made four pages. Less pages naturally equals less time. Secondly, I used velcro (and not snaps) to attach the detachable pieces. Snaps (since they're hand sewn) take longer to attach than velcro (which can be machine sewn or hot glued). Third, I hot glued all of the velcro pieces, on to the quiet book pages themselves and on to the detachable pieces. Hot gluing the velcro, instead of sewing it, saved a lot of time. I made sure that it was very sturdy and well attached. Fourth, I hot glued all the details. I sewed the main pieces on to each page - the tree and basket, boat, jellyfish, and dinosaur body - but hot glued the jellyfish's face and spots and the dinosaur's face on.

One thing I did with this quiet book that actually took more time, but was totally worth it, was sewing a cover. With my previous quiet books I've simply sewn button holes in the sides of the pages and then attached all the pages with binder rings. Not this time. This time, I cut a piece of fabric from a big, old t-shirt, laid the pages down on it, pinned it everywhere, and sewed. I sewed the front and end pages directly onto the cover, and the middle page I sewed to the middle of the cover by leaving some extra felt on the side of the page, and sewing that side of the page to the cover. (I'll show this with pictures at the end.) And I love it! The book is all one piece, all attached, and since the cover is made of t-shirt fabric it is super soft and nice to touch.

So, without further ado, here is my nephew Max's quiet book!

The apple tree page:

Noah's ark, with finger puppets (um, I only had time to make one finger puppet by his birthday...I'm going to make him more, I promise!)

The main body of the ark is a big pocket for finger puppets. I sewed around the top of the pocket (using a little thread design my sewing machine offered) to reinforce the edge. That way the felt won't get too stretched out when children used the pocket. I did the same thing with the basket on the apple tree page. (I also sewed some detail on the ark's roof, using another thread design setting on my sewing machine.)

The jellyfish page:

And dinosaur page:

Now here's a bunch of shots of the cover and the binding:

How the middle page is attached to the center:

I really like how it turned out, and I hope Max and my brother and sister-in-law like it too!

Interview
(is it really an interview if I'm asking myself the questions?)

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
I'm Jocelyn! I'm a homemaker and I like making stuff.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
My nephew, who just turned one year old.

What's your level of sewing experience?
Intermediate.

How long did it take you?
Ooh, tough question. I was totally going to mark down exactly how long it took me so I could tell you guys, but...I forgot. So, I'll just have to give you my best estimate. I worked on it at nighttime for a couple weeks. All told, I would guess about 14 hours?

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I actually used my own templates for the apple tree page and the dinosaur page (you can get them by clicking on those links). I didn't use a template for Noah's ark, just kind of winged it after looking at a lot of pages for inspiration. My jellyfish page was based on this jellyfish page.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I cut a big piece of fabric out of an old t-shirt to use as a cover. I sewed the first and last page directly on to the fabric (I turned in and sewed the fabric edges under the felt so that the edges are nice and clean). I sewed the second and third pages back to back, leaving room on the side of the page. I used that extra room to sew those pages directly to the cover as well, in between the two end pages.

What material are the pages made out of?
Felt.

What other materials did you use?
Velcro, thread, and ribbons.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I already had most of the supplies, and the extra supplies I needed (I think just velcro, and a page or two of felt) only cost me a couple dollars.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I think the jellyfish, because it's so colorful and happy.

And that's my newest quiet book! I hope you enjoyed it. :)

Tiffany's Animal Quiet Book

Good morning! The quiet book I get to share with you today is so cool. Made by mom Tiffany for her son, each page features a different animal. These pages are all really original and cute; I haven't seen any like them before. And they're so detailed and well made! They would be so fun to look at and touch with a little one - I know both my baby and toddler would love this book. They're all awesome, but if I had to pick one, I'd say my favorite page is the tiger. He's just so cute!

Enjoy!

 Interview

What's your name? Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
My name is Tiffany; I made this quiet book for my 1 year old son.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I don't have a lot of machine sewing experience. I've just played around until I like the results. I do a lot of hand sewing.

How long did it take you?
The book took approximately 3 months/90 hours from start to finish only working on it an hour or so a day.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I looked on Google images for pictures of different animals and then free hand sketched the animal. After free handing the animal picture I sketched out backgrounds.

How did you bind your quiet book?
For binding the book, I machine sewed the pages onto a strip of fabric and then sewed it to the cover.

What material are the pages made out of?
The pages are made from felt and embroidery thread.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
The supplies cost approximately $10.

What's your favorite page? Why?
My favorite page is probably the horse. I made a mistake with his eyes but managed to make it look like it was done on purpose by adding a bumblebee.

Tiffany, thank you so much for sharing your adorable quiet book with us!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
Kate. I am a blogger, and public health professional work-at-home mom and I love to create.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this quiet book for my little man who is turning two.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I have been sewing for many years, but each pattern includes about 25 pages of instructions with lots of pictures so that people with very limited sewing experience can complete the pages. The pages can also be constructed using fusible webbing with minimal sewing.

How long did it take you?
Each pages takes about 5 hours to complete.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
Pattern and instructions for sale here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/candidlykate

How did you bind your quiet book?
I use a unique idea that allows you to keep the pages all together without permanently binding them using overall clips that come from the back page around to the front. That way you can grab only a few pages if you wish OR pass different pages out to different children.

What material are the pages made out of?
Felt.

What other materials did you use?
Snaps, magnets, buttons, mirror, ribbon, and a variety of other materials.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Many of the supplies can be found in your stash but the total cost for all supplies is probably around $40 to make the whole book with no coupons used.

What's your favorite page? Why?
Adam and Eve. I think the fox is adorable!

To visit Kate's Etsy shop and see more pictures of each of the pages, click here: Candidly Kate on Etsy.

And now for the giveaway! There are three prizes for Kate's Bible Quiet Book giveway. One reader will win the entire PDF pattern set to "The Complete Old Testament Bible Story Quiet Book." Now, on to today's awesome quiet book! Made by Rebecca of Mellymoo Papercrafting for her nephew, this book actually uses a lot of the Quiet Book Blog's free templates. I love the way she uses them and all the details she adds! I really really love all the details Rebecca added on the car page. The driveways and connecting roads and tunnel are all such great ideas, as are the cute little houses and the castle and all the other details.

Some of the other pages she made include a kite page, a fishing page (in which the fish and the hooks have magnets inside, so that you can "catch the fish" with the hook), a shape matching and memory page, a laundry page, and a stars and rocket page. All of them are so cute and well done. I love the laundry line on the laundry page - the colorful little shirts on their little clothespins look so fun to play with!

To top it all off, Rebecca made this a counting book. Each page counts up one number - one kite, two fish, three flowers, four farm animals, and so on. It's a great idea, and she does it so well! Each page's items count up so logically and naturally.

All right, I'll stop rambling, so you can actually look at Rebecca's book! Enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
Rebecca, I’m a logical but creative person who really loves keeping busy!

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made it for Ethan, my one and only nephew for his 2nd birthday.

What's your level of sewing experience?
My Mum was a dressmaker and I’ve always dabbled with sewing I even made so of my own clothes when I was younger. However, my preference for sewing was always being creative- making things without patterns like quilts, cushion covers, bags etc.

How long did it take you?
At first I tried working on the book in the evenings but as I decided to add more pages the time increased- I did most of the work during a week off work. In total I must have spent 30 hours working on it.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I did use some templates to get me going on my first pages, they can be found on the quite book blog. http://quietbookblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/free-quiet-book-template.html

How did you bind your quiet book?
Each pages is made of two sheets of felt which are sewn back-to back, some of the pages have added ribbon trim. To bind the book together I used my Cropadile to punch holes in the edges and then I added eyelets and finally threaded ribbon through.

What material are the pages made out of?
All the pages are made from felt.

What other materials did you use?
Velcro, press-studs, buttons, embroidery thread, magnets, lollypop stick, thread, sequins, net, foam car shapes, eyelets, wobbly eyes- I think that’s it.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I didn’t keep a running total but I would say between £15-£20, mostly because of the number of sheets of felt I had to buy. I had most of the other bits and bobs in my craft supplies already.

Courtney's Quiet Book

A few weeks ago I came across the quiet book of Courtney from Adventures of a Stay at Home Mom, and I loved it! All of her pages are so cute and well made (I know I've said it before, but I love handstitching), and she has some really great ideas and pages I haven't seen before.

Some of the pages are new ones of her own design, and some of the pages are from patterns from Imagine Our Life that Courtney's put her own details on. For example, the train page from Imagine Our Life is usually only two pages, but she made it four pages long and then bound the pages cleverly so it could all fold out into one really long train. She also added a bottle of Tide to the laundry machine page, which is such a great idea. One of the pages of Courtney's own design that I absolutely adore is her weaving picnic basket page - it is so cute! I can't get over it.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling so you can look at her pictures. Enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Courtney. I am a stay-at-home mom and I love making things for my daughter.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book for my 2 year old daughter but I started making it when she was about 16 months old.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I have to admit, my sewing experience isn't very high. I decide I want to do something and I do it. It may take me longer than other people but I try to do my best and learn as I go. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I'm slow.

How long did it take you?
As a guesstimate I would say each page took anywhere from 2 to 10 hours. However, I choose to hand sew almost everything even when you have an option to use a machine. I really don't know how long it has taken me to make my whole book. A long time! :)

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
For the picnic page, fish pages, and kitty page, I designed them myself but haven't really made full patterns for them. The rest I got from imagineourlife.com. She has tons of great patterns!

How did you bind your quiet book?
I used imagineourlife's patterns for the basic page and cover patterns which use 2 grommets in each page and then you can use giant rings to attach the pages in the book. I have had a difficult time finding large enough rings so I have just temporarily tied mine together with ribbons or bungee thread. Whatever works :)

What material are the pages made out of? What other materials did you use?
The main material I use is felt and thread,(some people use embroidery floss but I just use normal sewing thread folded over once or twice to make it thicker). In some pages you can use ribbons and colorful fabrics and really whatever you want to add to it. One of the funnest parts about making the quiet book pages is making it your own. The cover is made with flannel or really whatever fabric you would like. You can use a clip or a giant button to close the book.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Supplies are generally very cheap. That's one of the best things about felt crafts. I get my felt at Hobby Lobby for $0.25 each and thread is a couple dollars per spool. The cover and binding will cost a little more but part of that depends on what fabric or method of binding you choose.

What's your favorite page? Why?
My favorite page is probably the circus train. I extended the pattern to make is a much longer train and used the basic animal finger puppet patterns to design some more animals of my own. I added my own background, switched up the colors, and changed a few other minor things. I made my train four pages long! In order to get it to fit in the book I made it so that each side folds in. It's pretty fun to open it up and have a giant train! :) I also made an envelope pocket on the back side of one of the train pages to keep the animals stored in. The best thing about making a quiet book is seeing kids get excited to play with it. Just a few minutes ago my little girl was playing with hers. I love being able to make things for her!

Jaime's Quiet Book

Today I get to show you a super cute quiet book from Jaime of the blog Crafty Math Mama. All of her pages look so fun - it starts off with a page where you can braid Rapunzel's hair, a page with a personalized felt family and pets, a dog with collar to buckle, a purse with lots of fun things inside, a pizza with toppings, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, a fishing page, the Eensy-Weensy Spider, a pirate page, and a music page (I love how on the music page the notes can slide along their strings!). Jaime's favorite page is the family page, and it's definitely one of my favorites too - how fun would having little dolls of your own family be for a child? This whole book is awesome. So please enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Jaime and I'm a mom of a 2 year old named Delia with a baby boy on the way! When I'm not at my job teaching math, I love to craft, sew, bake, and decorate cakes.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this quiet book for my daughter Delia to give to her for her 2nd birthday. She is now almost 2 1/2.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I can sew basic things. I learned in school and from my mother. My sewing experience includes these quiet book pages, pillows, and a few dresses for Delia.

How long did it take you?
I'm not sure how many hours this quiet book took me. I started last summer sewing maybe an hour or two each night and then when school started again I didn't have time to continue. When I had Christmas and Winter breaks I took the time to finish up what I wanted to include before Delia's birthday in March.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used one of the Quiet Book Blog's templates for Mr. Potato Head and the others I used were from ImagineOurLife.com. Some pages I took ideas from Pinterest and recreated them in my own way.

What material are the pages made out of? What other materials did you use?
The pages are made of felt and most of the decorations are made from felt and sewn with embroidery floss. Some pages have little random trinkets like the dog collar, jewels, hair clips, buttons, ribbon, and magnets.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
The wonderful thing about quiet books is that they can be very cheap to make. Felt is only about $0.30 per plain sheet and about $1.00 for a patterned piece. Anything extra I had to get, I tried to get from the dollar store or the dollar bins at the craft store.

What's your favorite page? Why?
My favorite page is probably the page I designed to look like our house. It has finger puppets of all our family members including baby who is on the way.

Marci's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book is fantastic. It is seriously so cute, so well made, and looks so fun.

Made by Marci of the blog If These Walls Could Speak, this book has so many awesome pages. It has a painter's palette with colors to match, a shape matching page with a ton of shapes, a camping page with an adorable tent, little finger puppets in sleeping bags, and stars and a moon that are snap on/off, a lion ribbon page, a mailbox with envelopes whose stamps velcro on and off and felt "letters" inside, a puzzle page with three amazing puzzles, a Mr. Potato Head page with awesome accessories, a colorful caterpillar page, a shoe-lacing page, a car and traffic page with velcro road signs, a laundry line page with matching socks, a build-a-snowman page with two snowman and accessories, and a Christmas tree with a lace-up ribbon and tree decorations that snap on and off.

I love this book. It is so cute and every page is packed with fun activities. I love all the details, like the little stars on the camping page that snap on and off, and the stamps on the letters, and the banners on the cover, and the little finger puppets in their sleeping bags. I'm definitely inspired by this book, and I hope you will be too! Enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
 I'm Marci. I'm a wife, blogger, DIY-er and stay-at-home mama to 2 boys!

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I originally made it for my son, Jack, who was 17 months at the time we gifted it to him on Christmas Eve. However, it's intended to be played with by our younger boy as well and any other future children!

What's your level of sewing experience?
Somewhere between beginner and intermediate. I've done a lot of sewing projects but I prefer to stick with "small" projects like this quiet book, bow ties, etc. I'm also terrible at following patterns - I pretty much wing everything I do.

How long did it take you?
About 5 months of working on it off and on during nap time. I would say each page took an average of 5 hours so total time was probably around 80 hours.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used the Mr. Potato Head template from this blog but for everything else I looked at pages on Pinterest and then created it myself without patterns.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I used three grommets per page and intended to hold the book together with D rings but I haven't yet found any big enough so it's currently held together by ribbons threaded through the grommets.

What material are the pages made out of?
Felt.

What other materials did you use?
Snaps, velcro, sequins, grommets, ribbons, buttons, zipper, shoelaces, mini clothespins.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I had a lot of supplies on hand already but I probably spent somewhere between $30-$40 on items I didn't already have.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I think I love the tent/camping page the most just because it's so interactive! The star/moon snaps, the zip, and the finger puppets all make it a really fun page! It's also one of the few pages that has something unique I hadn't seen somewhere else first (the finger puppets in sleeping bags inside the tent).

Desna's Quiet Book

One thing I love about quiet books is how unique they all are. The quiet book I had as a kid, made by my mom, was made out of a kind of muslin material with cotton sewn on top. The quiet books I've made for my own girls have been almost entirely made of felt. Some quiet books are machine sewn, others are hand-sewn. And they all have different activities! Today's quiet book, made by grandma Desna, is made out of cotton and bound like a quilt. Each of the pages are so cute and look so soft and fun. I love all the different patterned fabrics she used, and the way the pages are all connected together! It's such a bright and happy book; take a look and enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Desna; I am married, a mum of two daughters and one son; a granny of two little granddaughters and one little grandson.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this quiet book for my granddaughter Elise for her first birthday.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I did a little sewing at school and made some dressing up clothes for my daughters but never really took sewing seriously until my eldest daughter was expecting her first child, who is soon to be three years old. I wanted to make something for my first grandchild so decided to teach myself how to quilt through the internet... now I am hooked!

How long did it take you?
Rough guess on how long this project has taken... I spent a long time researching for ideas on the net and deciding how I should make the actual book... then choosing fabrics (any excuse to go fabric shopping!!). The actual sewing, quilting and binding was around a month.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I looked at lots of ideas and kind of put my own spin on them which I saw on Instagram and many other sites... I loved the Lion Roar page on this blog which simple had to be included and it is one of Elise's favourites.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I bound my quiet book as I would a quilt, as that's what I know best, then connected each page with matching fabric strips. I put a handle for easy carrying and a velcro closure to keep it tidy.

What material are the pages made out of? What other materials did you use?
The main material I used was cotton fabric, mostly from my stash, batting, ribbon, buttons, velcro, snap fasteners, corduroy, lace, pompoms, rickrack, Heatnbond, fusible fleece and fusible interfacing. I was afraid of the little pieces being mislaid so I attached every piece to a ribbon which was attached in the binding.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
This one is difficult! I really have no idea what it cost but it was quite a lot as I was buying in bulk as I have three grandkids and I knew I would be making more. Fabric and batting is expensive... but sure who is counting when you are having fun :)

What's your favorite page? Why?
My favourite page... it is between the weather page and the bird in the nest page but I am so proud of my rainbow as I really struggled and experimented as to how to make it and love it now.

Desna, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful book with us!

Tiffany's Twins' Quiet Books

This week I have a treat for you. :) I have a whole bunch of adorable quiet books to share with you from Tiffany of the blog Always Sewin' Somethin!, some of them books she made as gifts and some of them available in her Always Sewin' Somethin! Etsy shop.

The two books I get to share with you tonight are the first two quiet books she made; a set of matching books for her twin boys. Each book is unique, but they go together. I love her quilted covers - so cute, and they look so fun to touch! If we had those books at my house, I think I'd spend the most time just feeling the covers' texture, haha. :) They also have awesome velcro name pages, a shape matching page, a barn with finger puppets and a house with pictures of each boy, a bead counting page, a rice "I Spy" page, a seasons tree, a rocket ship, a counting/fishing page, and a robot. The books look super entertaining and very well made. Enjoy, and keep an eye out for more of Tiffany's books later this week!

 Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
Tiffany; I am a stay-at-home mom to twin boys and I love to sew whenever I get some free time.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made these two books for my twin boys when they were about 16 months old.  I wanted something to keep them busy during church.

What's your level of sewing experience?
Probably intermediate.

How long did it take you?
I didn't keep track for these particular books, but I'm guessing about 20 hours spread over a couple of hours a day for a few weeks.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
The barn page came from here: Homemade by Jill.
The tree page was from Serving Pink Lemonade, but now it's part of her book so it's not available for free anymore.
Most of the other pages were inspired by things I found online (mostly Pinterest).  I have included links for all of these in my blog post.

How did you bind your quiet book?
2 Metal Key Rings and a hole punch

What material are the pages made out of?
Pellon Extra Firm Interfacing

What other materials did you use?
Felt, sew-on velcro, zippers, ribbon, beads, packing tape (to make the "vinyl" on the I-Spy page), random buttons and stickers for the I-Spy page, rice, magnets, elastic, and more buttons.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Since these were my first quiet books, I didn't have a lot of the supplies on hand.  I probably spent $20-$30 on supplies, but then only used a little bit of each thing.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I think if you had asked me that question a year or two ago when I first made them, I probably would have said either the barn page or the I-Spy page.  But now that we've been playing with them for so long, I think the house page is my favorite.  My boys can talk now and it's so cute to watch them open the little doors/windows and say "Hi Jaxson," Or "Hi Bronx."  Plus, it's a fun way to see how much they have grown since then.
